KAN Management Services is proud to be assisting our Non-Profit client, Kelowna Women’s' Shelter in recruiting for a Part-Time Human Resources Coordinator position. This role is responsible for providing confidential support in areas including human resources and labour relations, coordinates recruitment, onboarding, training, and administrative management of employees and maintains employee benefits programs.


• Undertakes recruitment, receives and reviews job applications, provides recommendations on qualified candidates, arranges interviews, conducts reference checks, and provides support through hiring and orientation process.

• Regularly reviews, and works with the executive director, senior management and board of directors as necessary, to update human resources policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulations.

• Maintains confidential personnel records, reviews and reports to executive director when steps should be taken to address issues such as performance, absenteeism, and accommodation.

• Manages confidential information relating to labour relations, including union grievances or negotiations, and other complaints or allegations.

• Works with the management team to coordinate, and track employee participation in, training and professional development programs.

• Maintains employee benefits programs, including health and welfare benefits, and Municipal Pension Plan.

• Oversees employee wellness incentive and service recognition programs.

• Reviews and write job descriptions, performs job evaluations and analyses, and conducts and analyzes compensation surveys.

• Supports management team and staff in conducting annual performance planning.

• Compiles statistical data, undertakes analysis, identifies key findings, and produces reports and recommendations, including regarding things such as seniority, vacation entitlement, sick leave and banked overtime.

• Participates in regular staff meetings and meetings with Executive Director and others as needed.

• Participates in maintaining a collaborative and cooperative work climate.

• Tracks and processes requests for information, in compliance with necessary legislation and regulations, and oversees WorkSafeBC incidents and claims.

• Other duties as required.


• Post-secondary degree or diploma in human resources or industrial relations. CHRP designation is preferred.

• Minimum of three years recent experience in human resources or related field. Experience in the non-profit sector and unionized environments an asset.

• Proven knowledge and understanding of employment standards and legislation.

• Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking abilities.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an aptitude for dealing effectively with people at all organizational levels.

• Understanding of the issue of intimate partner violence and its impacts.

• Ability to function independently.

• Ability to actively support a healthy organizational culture, teamwork and collaboration.

• Ability to administer good judgment in situations where a decision is required within established policies, directives and/or regulations.

• Ability to administer good judgment in monitoring financial and human resources.

• Ability to administer good judgment that prevents a negative impact on the organization, Board and its members, and the delivery of Board programs and services.

• Satisfactory outcome of Criminal Reference Check required.
